Statement from Senator Hassan on Chuck Morse Embracing Big Pharma, Making Clear He’s AGAINST Medicare Negotiating Lower Prescription Drug Prices

Friday, August 19, 2022

Chuck Morse is once again standing with Big Pharma at the expense of Granite Staters – this time by making clear that he opposes allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices. This comes a week after Morse said that he opposes capping the skyrocketing price of lifesaving insulin at $35.

In response to Morse’s announcement, Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement:

“Chuck Morse is siding with Big Pharma at the expense of Granite Staters, saying he opposes a critical measure to lower prescription drug costs while Big Pharma makes record profits. Chuck Morse is once again making clear that he will do whatever corporate special interests want. The people of New Hampshire expect their elected leaders to stand up to Big Pharma, not, like Chuck Morse, just be another rubber stamp for Mitch McConnell’s corporate special interest agenda.”

The Inflation Reduction Act, which all of Senator Hassan’s opponents said they would’ve voted against, will allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices, a critical step that will lead to lower drug prices across the board. During an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan, Morse reiterated that he would have voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, and went even further by saying that he is specifically against its provision allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices.

NH Today’s Chris Ryan: And speaking about the Inflation Reduction Act there, the branded Inflation Reduction Act, on that piece of legislation, did you agree with the piece that allowed for Medicare to negotiate prescription drug costs or do you not agree with that aspect of it?

Chuck Morse: I think the government’s proven through the veterans that when the government gets involved, we eliminate choices and that hurts the people in the state of New Hampshire. So no, I’m against the government getting involved in anything to do with our lives. And I think we have to be careful here. And I wouldn’t have supported that, and I certainly wouldn’t have supported the bill because that bill is going to cause inflation because they’re spending and they’re taxing, and it’s not going to work.
