Manchester, NH – Senator Hassan this morning joined New Hampshire veterans to launch Veterans for Maggie at American Legion Sweeney Post #2, where she delivered remarks about her commitment to fighting for service members, veterans, and military families in New Hampshire and across the country.
“In the Senate, I have worked to ensure that our country fulfills its promise to honor our veterans by partnering with both Republicans and Democrats to pass critical legislation that veterans have advocated for,” said Senator Hassan. “Supporting those who serve is not a Republican issue or a Democratic issue; it is an obligation that should unite all Americans.”
Senator Hassan was joined by members of the Veterans for Maggie Leadership Council, which was launched this morning, and veteran supporters from across the state. Colonel Peter Duffy, U.S. Army (ret.) and Lieutenant Colonel Val Scarborough, USMC (ret.) — who are both members of the Veterans for Maggie Leadership Council — also delivered remarks and introduced Senator Hassan.
“Senator Hassan has been a valuable partner in securing better health care, jobs, and benefits for our veterans,” said Lieutenant Colonel Val Scarborough, USMC (ret.). “She understands how important it is that we always have veterans’ backs, and I am proud to support her for re-election.”
“Veterans often face significant health challenges upon returning home, both physical and mental, and Senator Hassan understands this,” Colonel Peter Duffy, U.S. Army (ret.). “She has been an important advocate for veterans for her entire career in public service, and we need to do everything we can to re-elect her this November.”
Senator Hassan has a long record of standing up for New Hampshire’s veterans, and as a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, she is fighting to ensure that veterans receive the care and support that they have earned and deserve:
The Senator worked across the aisle to develop and pass the PACT Act, which is now law, to ensure that veterans exposed to toxic substances during their service receive the care and benefits that they need and deserve.
Senator Hassan and colleagues from both parties successfully worked to keep VA clinics open in Littleton and Conway by stopping a VA proposal to close them.
President Biden signed into law Senator Hassan’s bipartisan Hire Veteran Health Heroes Act to help connect service members with jobs in health care after they finish their service.
Senator Hassan has supported year over year pay increases for service members, worked to lower taxes for Gold Star families, and is leading efforts to help more veterans get connected with mental health support during their transition to civilian life.
