ROUNDUP: Don Bolduc’s Anti-Choice Extremism Is Front and Center in the General Election

Thursday, September 15, 2022

With Senate Republicans pushing a nationwide abortion ban, Don Bolduc is “on the defensive” over his long anti-choice record and opposition to a woman’s fundamental freedom.

The Union Leader reported that Bolduc said New Hampshire’s abortion ban “did not go far enough” and that he would “consistently support ‘pro-life principles.’” The Associated Press confirmed Bolduc’s extremism, saying “Bolduc insisted during the Republican primary he would ‘always default for a system that protects lives from beginning to end,’” and NBC cited Bolduc’s 2019 comments in support of defunding Planned Parenthood in their general election coverage.

Bolduc’s anti-abortion views were further amplified this week when he campaigned with former Vice President Mike Pence, who said “we must not rest” until abortion is outlawed in every state in the country. Bolduc’s radicalism is out-of-touch with New Hampshire, and voters won’t forget that their rights are on the ballot this November.

Here’s what Granite Staters are reading on Don Bolduc’s anti-choice extremism…

Associated Press: Abortion ban legislation adds to political challenge for GOP

  • Don Bolduc didn’t have much time to celebrate winning the Republican nomination for Senate in New Hampshire on Wednesday before he and other swing-state GOP candidates were on the defensive.

  • A conservative retired Army brigadier general, Bolduc insisted during the Republican primary he would “always default for a system that protects lives from beginning to end.” But South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham’s decision to introduce legislation this week that would create a national abortion ban created the prospect that a campaign talking point could become a reality.

  • “In the world’s greatest democracy, Don Bolduc will make women second-class citizens,” New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan, one of the Senate’s most vulnerable Democrats, said at a quickly arranged press conference Wednesday. “National Republicans, from Mike Pence to leaders in the Senate and House, have waited years for the chance to ban abortion nationwide. If Don Buldoc is in the Senate, they would have a reliable vote to do just that.”

Union Leader: Hassan fires first shot at Bolduc over abortion

  • U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., dismissed her Republican nominee opponent, retired Brig. Gen. Don Bolduc of Stratham, as the “most extreme” candidate the GOP has picked for the Senate in decades.

  • Bolduc has said the state law Gov. Chris Sununu signed to ban all abortions after six months of pregnancy did not go far enough and that he would consistently support “pro-life principles.” “You do not compromise on the issue of life,” Bolduc said during a talk show on WSMN-AM in Nashua.

Fox News: Abortion Showdown: Hassan Targets Bolduc In Battleground New Hampshire Senate Race

  • Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire didn’t wait long to target her Republican challenger in November’s midterm election over the combustible issue of abortion.

  • Hours after retired Army Gen. Don Bolduc narrowly captured the GOP Senate nomination in the key general election battleground state — one of a handful of Senate races that will likely determine if the Republicans win back the chamber’s majority — Hassan’s campaign launched a new statewide television commercial charging that “Don Bolduc and anti-choice Republicans are taking away your personal freedom.”

  • “If Don Bolduc and Congressional Republicans take control of the U.S. Senate they would push for a nationwide ban on abortion — a ban with no exceptions,” the narrator in the ad claims.

NBC: Hassan targets Bolduc with her first TV ad of the general election

  • Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan isn’t wasting any time in targeting her newly minted GOP opponent, retired Brigadier Gen. Don Bolduc, launching her first TV ad of the general election focused on abortion.

  • The ad, shared first with NBC News, will hit the airwaves across the state on Thursday and is part of an ongoing TV ad campaign.

  • “The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade and Don Bolduc and anti-choice Republicans say we should ‘rejoice’ at the ruling denying women access to abortion,” a narrator says in the 30-second spot.

  • The ad refers to a June event with the Government Integrity Project where Bolduc said of the Supreme Court, “We got some pretty good decisions out of them, one of them today, why don’t we just rejoice that one right now, Roe v. Wade,” according to audio of the event.

  • The ad also notes that Bolduc supports eliminating funding for Planned Parenthood. The Union Leader reported in 2019 that Bolduc said at a local Republican meeting, “I do not support funding Planned Parenthood as it is today because money is going to abortions.”
