ICYMI: Don Bolduc “Pushed Ludicrous Conspiracies” and Made “Bizarre Claim About Out-of-State Voters” During NHPR Debate

Friday, October 28, 2022

In case you missed it, HuffPost and MSNBC’s Chris Hayes slammed Don Bolduc’s performance during the NHPR debate yesterday, where he “pushed ludicrous conspiracies” about New Hampshire’s elections and made a “bizarre claim about out of state voters,” including repeating the many times debunked lie that voters were bussed in from out of state to sway the 2020 election.

Don Bolduc, a Republican candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in New Hampshire, scolded a debate audience when members laughed at his bizarre claim about out-of-state voters.

Bolduc, a far-right candidate and Army veteran, had peddled false claims about the 2020 presidential election before he distanced himself from them following his Republican primary victory last month.

The GOP candidate had campaigned on unfounded claims about election fraud but later claimed in a Fox News interview that he had done research and found that the presidential race “was not stolen,” CNN reported.

Bolduc returned to making claims about election fraud during his debate against Democratic opponent Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) on Thursday. The Republican said “Granite Staters” tell him that school buses brought thousands of people into the state to vote illegally. […]

All in with Chris Hayes on MSNBC

HAYES: We win or it’s rigged. That’s it. That lie is now the orthodoxy in most of the Republican Party. This time, they’re running that playbook without Trump on the ballot. And it’s happening all over the country. Today, for instance, a debate between the Trump backed New Hampshire nominee for Senate, a guy named Don Bolduc, a guy who is a Big Lie adherent and proponent, pushed ludicrous conspiracies about people being bused in from out of state to vote for his Democratic opponent. That’s one that Trump himself was trumpeting back in 2016. Now, the audio is a little messed up at the debate, but you can still hear Bolduc’s nonsense.

BOLDUC: We need to make sure that school buses loaded with people at the polls don’t come in and vote.

MODERATOR: Just to be clear, you’re saying, you’re claiming that buses full of voters who are not permitted to vote here. You’re claiming that that happens in New Hampshire?

BOLDUC: I am claiming that that is what Granite Staters tell me. And I am saying we need to respond to that.

HAYES: Oh, the perception totality. I’m not saying it happens. It’s just that other people say it happened and so we should respond to it, which is the fallback of every Republican across the country. But of course, people say that happened because people like Donald Trump tell them it happened. It’s just a nice little circle. And of course it’s not true.
